# Report Templates in Platform Connections

> Reports are usually run by automation, so Created By is the tab that matters for a Report Template: it names the Workflows that run it.

## Overview

[Reports](https://help.withpersona.com/articles/hI9YUPxjW7v46pFfyk6J1/) are usually run by automation rather than by a person, so the useful questions about a Report Template are which Workflow runs it and what happens to the result. Both are on the template's [Platform Connections](https://help.withpersona.com/articles/5OiTipzrYE2g2lVofMtKMp/) page.

## Start on the Created By tab

The recommended way to create Reports is through a Workflow, so that they run on business logic you defined rather than on someone remembering to run them. A Workflow runs a Report from a template with the [Run Report step](https://help.withpersona.com/articles/20fGyKJCYgiR9NMY9nlKkN/), which names the Report Template to use.

The **Created By** tab lists those upstream templates and Workflows: it is the list of automation that can produce a Report from the template you are viewing. A [Case Action](https://help.withpersona.com/articles/3QokSTOfV7ZC7hNDPQ5HnT/) built from the Create Report macro is itself a published Workflow, so an action a reviewer runs from a Case is the same kind of relationship rather than a separate one.

## What follows a Report

On the **Creates** tab, Report Templates have no **Direct connections** section, since that appears only for Workflows and Inquiry Templates. The **Workflows** section shows the Workflows this Report Template triggers, and **Downstream connections** shows what those Workflows create, such as the Case a team opens to review a match.

[Running reports and reviewing matches](https://help.withpersona.com/articles/042goubhldtkoKAA6AmiZ/) covers those review paths in full, including marking an Inquiry for review and creating a Case from the same Workflow.

## Most Report Templates cannot be edited

Report Template configuration is view only in the Dashboard for every Report type except Watchlist (person), so opening Connections here is rarely the first step in editing the template. It is how you find the automation around it: the Workflow to change, and where a match ends up.

Report Templates also have no version history. For the one template type you can configure, a saved change applies to new Reports immediately and Reports already generated keep the configuration they ran with. For the tabs, the filters on each section, and how to open the page from any template or type, see [Platform Connections](https://help.withpersona.com/articles/5OiTipzrYE2g2lVofMtKMp/).
