Overview
Insight configurations on Document Verification Templates allow you leverage custom AI-powered custom extraction, analysis, and evaluation to gain meaningful insight from a document. Use of Insights requires you to configure prompts to automate your desired analyses with possible outputs being:
- String for open-ended, unstructured responses
- Multiple choice for constrained, predefined options
This flexibility helps you automate decision-making, enrich document metadata, or flag documents for manual review based on your specific compliance and business requirements.
Configure Insights Configurations
- Navigate to the Dashboard, and click on Inquiries > Templates (or Verifications > Templates).
- Find and select an Inquiry template with Document AI, or Create a new template.
- In the top right, click Configure.

- In the left navigation, click Document AI.

- Scroll down to Insights, or click Insights in the left navigation.

To add a new insight, click the Add insight button.

In the right toolbar, under Automate new insight:

- Insight label (required): A label or name for this insight that provides context to the AI instructions.
- Insight Key (required): Auto-generated from the label. Used in API responses and as a way to reference the resulting insight from a Document Verification run within other Persona products such as Workflow Conditional Steps.

Under Configure, choose a Prompt Template:
- String Prompt Templates: Use this option to have Document Verification run's generate an AI-powered insight that is a string data type. Responses are more conversational, prose-like, and unstructured relative to Multiple Choice.
- Multiple Choice Prompt Templates: Use this option when you want the resulting AI-powered insight to be a value from a predefined list of responses.
- Click Try examples button to insert sample prompts.

Click Save on the top right.
Configure String Prompt Templates
- Select Under Configure, set Prompt template to String.

- In the Prompt language text box, enter a prompt that guides or instructs Documents AI to extract your desired insight. For example, to get a summary of the document's main points, use: "Summarize the document's main points." Note that the more detailed you are in your instructions, the better.
- Choose if you want to “Save analysis output to a Document Field.” This is recommended.
- Click Add button to save the new insight, or Cancel to discard it.
Configure Multiple Choice Prompt Templates
- Select Under Configure, set Prompt template to Multiple choice.

Choose a Prompt response type:
- Best answer (default): Documents AI selects a single option from the list of available options you configure that best matches the prompt.
- All answers: Documents AI can select multiple answers from the list of available options you configure.

In the Prompt language text box, enter a prompt that guides or instructs Documents AI. For example, "From the below list, choose the primary language this document is written in." Note that the more detailed you are in your instructions, the better.

Under Multiple choice options, click the Add option button to configure available options, you can add up to 10.

For each Multiple choice option, complete:

- Answer label: A label or name that provides context for Document AI's instructions and that are short and human-readable to represent that option relative to other available options.
- Description: A description that provides additional detailed information for Documents AI to help choose the best option when extracting insights during a Document Verification run.
- Click the Trash button to remove an option. Click X button to close the edit window.

Set a Default response. This will be returned if the prompt doesn’t match any listed option. It is recommended to consider this option as your fallback for when the instructions and options are insufficient to choose a high confidence option.

Under Advanced, choose if you want to “Save analysis output to a Document Field.” This is recommended.

Click Add button to save the new insight, or Cancel to discard it.
Save Insight output to a Document Field
Under the Advanced section, you can optionally store the AI-generated insight as a Document Field:
Use an existing Document Field

- Click the check box to “Save analysis output to a Document Field.”
- By default Existing field is selected.
- Under Document fields the click the selection box to choose an existing document field. The field must be compatible with the prompt template and response type for the insight. For a String response type, you will only be able to select document fields that are strings. Incompatible fields are disabled.
- Click Add button to save the new insight, or Cancel to discard it.
Create a new Document Field

- Click the check box to “Save analysis output to a Document Field.”
- Select New Field, fill out the following fields:
- New document field label: A name for this document that provides context to the AI instructions.
- Document field key: Auto-generated from the label. Used in API responses and across Persona products.
- Type: Choose String or Array. Extractions can be saved to String or Array of String document fields. Incompatible fields are disabled.
- Click Add & Create New Field button to save the new field, or Cancel to discard it.

Insight Configurations enable you to extract structured meaning from documents using Persona’s AI technology, turning unstructured data into actionable insights that support automated decisioning.
They’re especially useful when you need to:
- Evaluate document content against internal or compliance criteria without manual review.
- Enrich document data with standardized fields for downstream use in APIs, Reports, or Workflows.
- Detect key patterns or attributes that inform identity, eligibility, or risk decisions.
- Streamline review processes by surfacing only documents that require human attention.
