Persona Wallet Overview

What is a Persona Wallet?

📍 This guide is written for customers whose end-users complete a Persona identity verification flow via Persona Wallet (also known as Reusable Personas).

Persona Wallet allow users to seamlessly store and reuse their verified personally identifiable information (PII) across devices and the ever-growing Persona network.

What’s the benefit to Persona customers?

End users can create a Persona Wallet to securely save their PII and speed up future verification flows on other businesses that use Persona to verify identities.

How does this change Inquiry flows?

Creation Flow: When an end user that doesn’t yet have a Persona Wallet reaches the last screen of a flow, Persona will present the option to create a Persona Wallet and store the PII that they have shared.

Example: Persona Wallet Create

Verify Flow: When an end user with a Persona Wallet sees a new flow, Persona will present the option to use a passkey to share the PII on the Persona Walleta instead of procuring their forms of identification again.

Example: Persona Wallet Verify

How do I configure whether a Persona Wallet can be created or be used as part of verification for my Inquiry Template?

To enable or disable Persona Wallet, first navigate to the Flow Editor by going to Inquiries > Templates > selecting the specific Inquiry Template you'd like to update. From there, navigate to the Persona Wallet or Reusable Personas configuration.

Persona Wallet Configuration in Flow Editor for a specific Inquiry Template

📍 Some inquiry templates have custom configurations (usually this means the Persona team has worked with you directly to configure custom settings) and in these instances, you may find the ability to configure Persona Wallet for your Inquiry Template to be unavailable in your dashboard.

What is stored in the Persona Wallet?

Depending on what information is requested and successfully verified, information such as name, birthdate, address, ID document, and selfie may be saved in the Persona Wallet.

The information stored in a Persona Wallet is encrypted and secured by the end user's passkey, which is cryptographically tied to their device and protected by their device's unlock method. The passkey is the primary way an end user unlocks and uses their Persona Wallet, meaning they control when it's used and what information is shared.

Whose data is it?

The data held in the Persona Wallet belongs to the end user, not to Persona customers.

Unlike the data Persona processes on behalf of customer, Persona acts as the controller, as described in data privacy law, of the Persona Wallet. When consuming Persona Wallet information, customer shall be a controller of the data retrieved from the Persona Wallet and the transfer of the data to the customer shall be considered a controller-to-controller transfer.

Subsequently, when the data is processed on Customer’s behalf outside of the Persona Wallet, Persona shall act as the processor in accordance with the agreement between the Customer and Persona.

How can my end users manage their data?

End-users can download the Persona Wallet App on either Apple App Store and Google’s Play Store. The Persona Wallet App allows end users to create and manage the verified PII stored on their Persona Wallet such as additional forms of identification (i.e. drivers licenses, passports).
