What is different outside the United States
In a Database Verification, match requirements are the rules that decide what counts as a match against a known database. That idea is the same everywhere, but the settings for international databases are simpler than the ones for the United States.
Instead of choosing a comparison method and a threshold, you pick a required match level per field:
- Full. The information must match exactly.
- Partial. The information must match, with room for slight differences. You may hear this called a fuzzy match.
- None. The information does not need to match, which is useful for a field you collect for information only.
Requiring stricter levels generally reduces Database Verification pass rates.
Where to find it in the Dashboard
These settings live with the comparison checks on a Database Verification Template, alongside the rest of the Database Verification configurations.
Each field you can configure maps to a single Verification check. To verify an end user’s name, for example, you require the Name Comparison check and set the match requirement on that check. The full list is in the Dashboard, under Verification Checks.
Reading the results
A match result can be full, partial, none, or missing. The first three follow from your match requirements. Missing is different: it means Persona could not find information about that field in a known database at all, which is not the same as a failed comparison.
In the Verification view, checks that use a match requirement are grouped under Comparison Check Results, and everything else sits under Checks. A check passes when the result meets the level you required, so a check set to Partial passes on a Full result too, and a check set to None is effectively not required.
When to reach for it
Reach for these settings when a region’s data coverage makes your current levels either too strict to pass legitimate end users or too loose to be worth running. Persona ships two options with strong defaults, full match and partial match, so start there.
