Digital ID Verification confirms identity information through an issuing authority or other trusted provider. The Selfie Verification captures a live image of the person and includeds a check to compare the selfie against a submitted ID portrait. Whether Persona can compare the two depends on two things:
- Whether the Digital ID provides a portrait image.
- Whether a verification that provides a portrait finishes before or after the Selfie Verification.
Digital IDs that do not provide a portrait
The following Digital IDs do not provide Persona with a portrait image that Selfie Verification can use:

This list is specific to the named Digital IDs. It does not mean that every Digital ID in the same country lacks a portrait. For example, UK Share Codes are separate from OneID and can provide a portrait.
Digital ID capabilities can change. Use the Documentation > Coverage Map > Digital ID page in the Dashboard to review current coverage, and confirm portrait requirements with your Persona account team before changing a production flow.
How the Selfie-to-ID Comparison chooses a portrait
The Selfie-to-ID Comparison check runs as part of Selfie Verification. It compares the captured selfie with a portrait supplied by an eligible, previously completed ID verification in the same Inquiry or Transaction.
A portrait-less Digital ID cannot supply that image. If no earlier eligible verification supplies a portrait, the check is not applicable (N/A) because there was no ID portrait to compare. N/A means that Persona did not perform the biometric comparison. It is not a successful face match.
This differs from a face mismatch. A face mismatch means Persona had both images, performed the comparison, and found that they did not meet the configured match requirement.
Passing a Digital ID Verification confirms the result of that Digital ID check. An N/A Selfie-to-ID Comparison does not add evidence that the selfie belongs to the Digital ID holder.
How verification order affects the comparison
The following examples assume that the Digital ID does not provide a portrait and that the relevant comparison checks are enabled.

The two comparison directions appear on different Verification results:
- Selfie-to-ID Comparison appears on Selfie Verification when an eligible ID portrait is available before the selfie.
- Government ID-Selfie Comparison appears on Government ID Verification when a usable selfie is available before the Government ID.
A successful Government ID-Selfie Comparison links that Government ID portrait to the selfie. It does not, by itself, prove that a separate Digital ID in the same flow belongs to the same person. If your decision requires the Digital ID, Government ID, and selfie to be linked, add and require appropriate comparisons of identity attributes between those results, or use another explicit linking control in your decision flow.
Recommended flow when the Digital ID has no portrait
When a biometric face match is required, place Government ID Verification before Selfie Verification:
- Run the portrait-less Digital ID Verification.
- Run Government ID Verification and collect an ID with a usable portrait.
- Run Selfie Verification with Selfie-to-ID Comparison enabled.
- Require the Digital ID result, the Government ID result, the face comparison, and any identity-attribute comparisons needed to link the results for your use case.
This order keeps the face comparison on the Selfie Verification and makes the Government ID portrait available when that check runs. If your flow collects the selfie first, review the later Government ID Verification for the separate Government ID-Selfie Comparison instead.
