Understanding the External Display Name field

Overview

The External Display Name is surfaced when Persona needs to tell the end user which business the verification belongs to. It does not appear automatically on every inquiry screen.

  • Device-handoff email: Used in the subject, preview text, and body. For example, “Acme one-time link” and “Continue verifying your identity for Acme.”
  • Device-handoff SMS: Used in copy such as “This is your one-time link for Acme.”
  • Email confirmation code: Used in the subject, preview text, and instructions. For example, “Acme confirmation code.” With Persona’s default email sender, it can also appear in the friendly sender label: “Persona (on behalf of Acme).”
  • Phone confirmation code: Used in the SMS copy: “Your confirmation code for Acme is…”
  • Security dialogs inside the inquiry: Shown when relevant protections trigger, including new-device warnings, phishing/link-recognition warnings, and sandbox warnings. For example, “Do you recognize this link from Acme?”

If the setting is blank, Persona substitutes in your organization name. It generally is not a persistent company name in the inquiry header or on ordinary screens; those need explicit flow copy or branding configuration.
