Overview

Motion is an AI-powered productivity platform. It schedules tasks and meetings into a user’s calendar automatically.

Persona’s Motion integration lets a Workflow create, update, and delete tasks in a Motion workspace, and look up workspaces, tasks, and schedules. For example, a Workflow can create a task with a due date and assign it to a reviewer for every Inquiry that needs manual review, so that Motion schedules the review into the reviewer’s calendar.

Integration features

The Motion integration supports these Workflow actions:

  • List workspaces: List the workspaces that the API key’s user is a member of.
  • List schedules: List the schedules of the API key’s user.
  • List tasks: List tasks, with optional filters.
  • Retrieve task: Retrieve one task.
  • Create task: Create a task in a workspace.
  • Update task: Change an existing task.
  • Delete task: Delete a task.

Prerequisites

Before you configure the integration, you need:

  • A Motion account.
  • A Motion API key. Motion supports only API key authentication, not OAuth.

Set up Motion credentials

  1. Sign in to Motion at app.usemotion.com.
  2. Open the Settings tab.
  3. Under API, click Create API Key. Copy the key immediately, because Motion shows it only once. Keep the key secure.
  4. In the Persona Dashboard, go to Integrations > Marketplace and select Motion.
  5. Click Add Credential, enter a nickname for the credential, and paste the API key.
  6. Save the credential.

Use Motion in a Workflow

  1. Create a Workflow, or open the Workflow you want to update.
  2. Add an Action step and select Integrations.
  3. Select Motion, choose the saved credential, and select an action.
  4. Map Persona data to the action’s input fields.
  5. Save and publish the Workflow.

Motion actions

Most actions need IDs from other actions. A typical setup uses List workspaces to find the Workspace ID, then List tasks to find a Task ID.

List workspaces

Returns the workspaces that the user is a member of. Use it to find the Workspace ID for Create task.

Optional fields: Cursor, IDs.

List schedules

Returns the user’s schedules, for example Work Hours. No field is required.

List tasks

Returns tasks. Use it to find the Task ID for Retrieve task, Update task, and Delete task.

Optional fields include:

  • Workspace ID: Return tasks from one workspace. When this field is empty, Motion returns tasks from all of the user’s workspaces.
  • Assignee ID, Project ID, Label, and Name
  • Status or Include All Statuses: You cannot use both in the same request.
  • Cursor: Get the next page of results from a previous response.

Retrieve task and Delete task

Retrieve task returns one task. Delete task deletes a task.

Required fields: Task ID.

Create task

Creates a task and returns it, including its Task ID.

Required fields: Name, Workspace ID.

Optional fields include:

  • Due Date: An ISO 8601 date. Required for a scheduled task.
  • Duration: NONE, REMINDER, or a number of minutes greater than 0.
  • Status: The default is the workspace’s default status.
  • Auto Scheduled: Turn on auto-scheduling, with a Start Date, a Deadline Type (HARD, SOFT, or NONE), and a Schedule. The task’s status must allow auto-scheduling. The schedule must be Work Hours if you schedule the task for a different user.
  • Project ID, Description (GitHub Flavored Markdown), Priority (ASAP, HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW), Labels, and Assignee ID

Update task

Changes an existing task and returns the updated task.

Required fields: Task ID, Name.

Optional fields include: the same fields as Create task, including Workspace ID. Set Auto Scheduled to empty to turn auto-scheduling off.
