Overview

Pumble is a team communication platform from CAKE.com with public and private channels, direct messages, calls, and file sharing. Persona’s Pumble integration uses Pumble’s API Keys add-on to let a Workflow post messages to channels, send direct messages to workspace members, and read a message back by its ID.

For example, a Workflow can post to a review channel when an Inquiry is marked for review, or send a direct message to the reviewer assigned to a Case.

Integration features

The Pumble integration supports these Workflow actions:

  • List channels: List every channel and direct-message conversation the key’s user can see.
  • List users: List every member of the workspace, including bots.
  • Send message: Post a message to a channel, as yourself or as the API bot.
  • Send direct message: Send a direct message to one workspace member.
  • Fetch message: Retrieve a single message by its ID.

Prerequisites

Before configuring the integration, you need:

  • A Pumble workspace where you are allowed to install apps. The free Pumble plan is enough.
  • The API Keys add-on installed in that workspace, and an API key generated from it.

The API key acts on behalf of the user who generated it. Messages are posted as that user unless you choose to post as the bot, and only channels that user is a member of can be read. If that user leaves the workspace or the add-on is uninstalled, the key stops working.

Set up Pumble credentials

  1. In Pumble, click + Add apps in the left sidebar.
  2. Find API (the API Keys add-on), click Install, and authorize the permissions it requests.
  3. Open the API app from the sidebar and click Add API key, or type /api-keys generate in any message box.
  4. Enter a name for the key and click Generate. The key is shown once, in a message only you can see, so copy it now.
  5. In the Persona Dashboard, go to Integrations > Marketplace and select Pumble.
  6. Click Add Credential, enter a nickname for the credential, and paste the API key.
  7. Save the credential.

If you lose the key, generate a new one. /api-keys list shows the keys you own.

Use Pumble in a Workflow

  1. Create a Workflow, or open the Workflow you want to update.
  2. Add an Action step and select Integrations.
  3. Select Pumble, choose the saved credential, and select an action.
  4. Map Persona data to the action’s input fields.
  5. Save and publish the Workflow.

Pumble actions

List channels

Returns every channel and direct-message conversation the user can see, with the IDs of their members. Use it to find the Channel ID or Channel Name for Send message and Fetch message. Direct-message conversations have an empty name, so use their ID. The list is not paginated.

You can also copy a Channel ID from the browser URL while the channel is open in the Pumble web app.

List users

Returns every member of the workspace, including bots. Use it to find the User ID or Email for Send direct message. The list is not paginated.

Send message

Posts a message to a channel.

Required fields: Text, plus either Channel ID or Channel Name.

Optional fields:

  • Post as Bot: Post as the API Keys add-on bot instead of as the user who owns the key.

When both Channel ID and Channel Name are set, Channel ID wins. The bot can only post to a private channel if it has been added to that channel as a member.

Send direct message

Sends a direct message from the key’s user to one workspace member.

Required fields: Text, plus either User ID or Email.

When both are set, User ID wins. Direct messages are always sent as the key’s user; there is no bot option. You cannot send a direct message to yourself.

Fetch message

Retrieves a single message, including its text, reactions, link previews, files, and thread details.

Required fields: Message ID, plus either Channel ID or Channel Name.

Use the Message ID returned by Send message or Send direct message. To fetch a direct message, use the Channel ID that Send direct message returns, because a direct-message conversation is a channel of its own.

FAQs

Why does Pumble return a 403 error?

Pumble returns 403 for most errors, not only permission problems. An invalid body, an unknown channel or user, a bot posting to a private channel it has not joined, and a missing or invalid API key all return 403. Check the error message in the integration log to see which one applies.

Does Pumble limit API requests?

Yes. Pumble allows up to 1,000 requests per minute per user.
