What if I don’t have a smartphone?

Options for verifying your identity without a smartphone, including computers, tablets, and asking the business for an alternative.

This guide is for individuals going through a Persona-powered identity verification flow. While we’ve included helpful tips, the verification was set up by the business, service, or organization that asked you to verify. They use Persona as a tool, and they ultimately decide what’s required and can assist with your specific situation, if you’re having trouble.

You are not locked to a phone

Most verification flows secured with Persona run in a web browser, so a smartphone is not required. A computer with a webcam, a tablet, or any device with a browser and a camera usually works. See can I verify on a computer? for the details.

What you need

  • A device that can open the link the business sent you.
  • A camera, built in or attached, if the flow asks for photos or a selfie.
  • An internet connection good enough to upload photos.

If you have no camera

If you have a computer but no camera, some flows let you upload a photo of your ID taken another way, while others require a live capture. Check what the flow offers, then contact the business that asked you to verify with your situation.
