Can I verify someone else?

Why you can only verify yourself in a verification flow secured with Persona, and what to do if you need to verify on another person’s behalf.

This guide is for individuals going through a Persona-powered identity verification flow. While we’ve included helpful tips, the verification was set up by the business, service, or organization that asked you to verify. They use Persona as a tool, and they ultimately decide what’s required and can assist with your specific situation, if you’re having trouble.

You can only verify yourself

Identity verification is a one-to-one check: the person doing the verification has to be the person on the documents. You cannot verify on behalf of your child, partner, parent, or anyone else. The selfie and document photos exist to prove the person submitting is the person on the ID.

Why that matters

A verification flow can compare the selfie to the photo on the document, so putting someone else in front of the camera is not something to count on getting past. It also does not give the business what they asked for, which is confirmation of who you are.

If you need to help someone else

The person who needs to verify has to complete the flow themselves, on their own device and with their own ID. You can help them set up or walk them through it, but the photos and selfie must be theirs.
