This guide is for individuals going through a Persona-powered identity verification flow. While we’ve included helpful tips, the verification was set up by the business, service, or organization that asked you to verify. They use Persona as a tool, and they ultimately decide what’s required and can assist with your specific situation, if you’re having trouble.
Is Persona a bank?
No, Persona is not a bank, and Persona does not hold or manage any money. Persona is an identity verification service. Persona checks that you are who you say you are, on behalf of the business that asked you to verify.
Why does Persona need my ID then?
Persona needs your ID to do the job the business asked for: confirming your identity. Businesses in banking, government, healthcare, and many other industries need to confirm who their customers are, and they hire Persona to do that check. Asking for your ID, your selfie, and a few details about you is how that check works. It does not mean Persona is taking over your account or your money.
Who actually holds my money and my account?
The business that asked you to verify. They hold your account, your money, and any benefits you are trying to access. Persona only does the identity check and sends the results back to them. If you have questions about your account or your money, contact the business directly.
If Persona is not a bank, can it access my bank account?
No. Persona cannot access your bank account, move money, or read your bank statements. Verification may ask about your identity, not your finances. If you see a request for financial information, it comes from the business you are using, and only you can choose whether to share it.
