This guide is for individuals going through a Persona-powered identity verification flow. While we’ve included helpful tips, the verification was set up by the business, service, or organization that asked you to verify. They use Persona as a tool, and they ultimately decide what’s required and can assist with your specific situation, if you’re having trouble.
You can still verify without your usual ID
Losing your ID does not stop you from verifying. Many flows accept other documents, like a passport, a driver’s license from where you live, a national ID card, or a residence permit, depending on what the business accepts. The flow lists the document types it supports.
What to check first
Open the verification flow and look at the document options it offers before you start. Choose the type you actually have, and keep it flat and well lit when you photograph it. See how to take a good ID photo for the technique.
If you do not have any ID
If you cannot provide any accepted document right now, tell the business you are verifying with. They can tell you what else they accept, or how to proceed. The requirement is theirs, so they are the ones who can help you find a path. See what do I do if verification fails?.
Getting a replacement ID
If you can, getting a replacement ID is the cleanest fix. Your local government or DMV can replace a lost license, and a passport office can replace a passport. The verification can wait while you get one, if the business agrees.
