I moved to a new country

What to watch for when you verify from a country you recently moved to, and who decides which documents are accepted.

This guide is for individuals going through a Persona-powered identity verification flow. While we’ve included helpful tips, the verification was set up by the business, service, or organization that asked you to verify. They use Persona as a tool, and they ultimately decide what’s required and can assist with your specific situation, if you’re having trouble.

Moving does not expire your ID

Your passport, national ID, or driver’s license is the same document it was before you moved. If it has not expired, it is still worth using.

Which documents a verification flow accepts is set by the business that asked you to verify, and that can differ from one business to the next. If yours is not on the list you are shown, that is their choice about what they accept rather than a judgement about your document.

Read each question carefully

Moving is exactly the situation where two questions that look alike are not. If a step asks about a country, take a second to check what it is actually asking: where a document was issued and where you live now can be different answers, and it is easy to answer the second when the first was asked.

The same goes for an address field. Give the address the question asks for. If a flow wants your current address, use where you live now, and your ID does not need to match it unless the flow separately asks for a document that shows it.

If you picked the wrong option, see I chose the wrong document type.

If your document is not accepted

Look at what the screen says, then contact the business that asked you to verify. They decide which documents they accept and they are the ones who can tell you what to use instead or offer another way through.
