Does Persona store my ID?

Learn whether Persona stores the ID you submit, why it may be kept, and how to request deletion.

This guide is for individuals going through a Persona-powered identity verification flow. While we’ve included helpful tips, the verification was set up by the business, service, or organization that asked you to verify. They use Persona as a tool, and they ultimately decide what’s required and can assist with your specific situation, if you’re having trouble.

Why your ID may be stored

A verification stores the information it needs to do its job. Your ID and selfie may be kept because the business needs to satisfy a check, keep a record, or meet a legal or regulatory requirement. How long it is kept is decided by the business you verified with, not by Persona acting alone.

What happens to it while stored

While your ID is stored, it is protected by the same security controls that apply to all verification data: encryption, limited access, and no selling or marketing use. See can I trust Persona with my ID? for the details.

How to ask for it to be removed

You can request deletion of the data Persona holds about you through the privacy policy, and you can ask the business that asked you to verify to delete what they hold. Deletion has limits: records kept for legal or regulatory reasons may have to stay. See can I delete my data? for what a deletion request involves.

Who else can see your stored ID

The business that asked you to verify can see your documents, because that is who the verification serves. No one else is shown your ID. See can someone else see my verification results?.
