This guide is for individuals going through a Persona-powered identity verification flow. While we’ve included helpful tips, the verification was set up by the business, service, or organization that asked you to verify. They use Persona as a tool, and they ultimately decide what’s required and can assist with your specific situation, if you’re having trouble.
Why the scan looks soft
A captured ID photo looks blurry when the camera moved, the card was angled, the light was low, or the camera focused on something behind the card.
Make the card sharp
- Rest the phone or the ID on a steady surface, or brace your elbows, so neither moves.
- Place the ID on a flat surface and photograph it from directly above, filling the frame.
- Tap the preview to force focus on the card.
- Brighten the room so the camera can use a faster shutter.
- Remove any case or screen protector reflections that soften the image.
Retaking
Photos are usually easiest on a phone. See passport photo page is blurry if the blur is inside the document, or fixing glare if reflections are the issue.
